Hawks and NPA near conclusion of investigation into Tongaat Hulett fraud

THE Directorate for Priority Crimes Investigations also known as the Hawks, and the National Prosecuting Authority are in the final stages of completing their investigation into an alleged fraud that was committed by one of the previous unsuccessful bidders for Tongaat Hulett, RGS Group Holdings.

In a document that The Star had confidentially seen, the NPA instructed the Hawks to obtain warning statements from the directors of RGS, including the executive chairman Aquil Rajahussein, to explain their knowledge and participation in a fraudulent letter of funding that RGS admitted they provided to the Lender Group and Business Rescue Practitioners of Tongaat in November 2023 during the bidding process for Tongaat Hulett.

The charging of the company seem to be a forgone conclusion and the focus has now moved to the directors personally.
