According to recent statistics, South Africa records thousands of suicides annually, with estimates suggesting that one person dies by suicide every two hours. Rates are particularly high among men, young adults, and individuals facing unemployment or social marginalisation. Mental health specialists say these figures are likely underreported, as stigma, cultural taboos, and lack of reporting infrastructure often prevent accurate tracking.
