Bosses say needs better met elsewhere

- Thomas Cooper

THE family of a 98-year-old gran have criticised a care home - after their loved-one was given 28 days to find somewhere else to live.

Winnifred Keeling has severe dementia, mobility issues, and sciatica and had lived at Wall Hill Care Home, in Leek, for 12 years.

But daughter, Janice Stubbs, was left ‘stunned’ when she received an unexpected phone call from the social services team at Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (MPFT).

Janice, aged 78, below, told The Sentinel: “The house phone went off out of the blue.

“A woman on the phone asked my name. She told me she was my mother’s social care worker.

“Apparently this social worker had been told that Wall Hill had served her with notice to leave - and that I had approved of it.

“My jaw just dropped. I told her I didn't know anything. I'd had no letter, no phone call, no meeting. No nothing.”

The family lodged a formal complaint with the care home.

But the complaint did not stop Winnifred being moved.

The family had managed to secure a place at Beech Dene Residential Home - only for the move to fall through on the day.
