Illegal construction in Waaf properties rampant, needs monitoring, says HC

THE Delhi High Court on Tuesday observed that unauthorised constructions were rampant in disputed Waqf properties and no one was looking after them, as it stressed the need for proper monitoring.

The high court flagged the issue relating to the dispute over 123 properties, where the Delhi Waqf Board lays its claim while the Centre has de-listed them, and said some of them are very lucrative properties in Delhi and are in the heart of the city.

A bench of Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Manmeet PS Arora referred to one of the cases dealt by it in which a property in Nizamuddin East, branded as a Waqf property, was sold multiple times before a hotel was constructed on it without any official sanctions.
