One of the key announcements was the full exemption of BCD on 36 life-saving drugs and medicines, which will be added to the existing list of exempted items.

The minister also proposed including six more life-saving medicines in the category that attracts a concessional customs duty of 5%. In addition, drugs and medicines under Patient Assistance Programmes, run by pharmaceutical companies, will continue to be fully exempt from BCD, provided they are supplied free of cost to patients. Furthermore, she proposed adding 37 more medicines and introducing 13 new patient assistance programmes.
