One for the bucket hat list: fans flock to Cardiff for first Oasis concert in 16 years

Despite the hoopla on the streets nearby - where singalongs of Champagne Supernova are breaking out - it's still astonishing to see Oasis's 1998 compilation The Masterplan on the shelf. The band's reunion, after 16 years apart, still feels so unlikely.

Ashli Todd has worked at Spillers for almost 30 years and is the shop's current owner. She says sales of Oasis albums have "never dwindled" and adds: "It's exceptionally exciting to have their tour kicking off here. I just had a father in his 50s in, who saw them in their heyday, telling me he's taking along his teenage child, which is beautiful."

imageIt's Friday afternoon, and Oasis's first live show since 2009 is just hours away. Families of fans are almost as prevalent in Cardiff city centre as the anticipated groups of lads. A queue has formed for photos in front of a 250 sq ft mural of Noel and Liam Gallagher, installed especially for the occasion and comprised entirely of black and white bucket hats.

Lottie, 11, in a Definitely Maybe T-shirt and "Cardiff Live '25" bucket hat, is a big fan. "My dad introduced me to them," she says. "We bond over their songs."
