Nvidia reveals plan to invest $5bn into Intel and collaborate on products

Nvidia, the world's leading chip-maker, announced plans to invest $5bn (£3.7m) in Intel and collaborate with the struggling semiconductor company on products.
One month after the Trump administration confirmed it had taken a 10% stake in Intel - the latest extraordinary intervention by the White House in corporate America - Nvidia said it would team up with the firm to work on custom datacentres that form the backbone of artificial intelligence infrastructure, as well as personal computer products.
Shares in Intel surged 27% during early trading in New York. Nvidia rose more than 3%, bolstering its $4tn market value. Nvidia said it would spend $5bn to buy Intel common stock, subject to regulatory approvals.
