Diplomacy Netanyahu hits out at allies in row over state of Palestine
The Guardian
|August 20, 2025
Benjamin Netanyahu hit out at the leaders of Australia and France yesterday, in a row that has escalated since the two allies of Israel decided to recognise a Palestinian state.
The Israeli PM launched a broadside against Anthony Albanese, labelling his Australian counterpart "weak" in a social media post.
"History will remember Albanese for what he is: a weak politician who betrayed Israel and abandoned Australia's Jews," read a post on X from the account of Israel's prime minister.
Albanese's office was approached for comment.
Australia's key Jewish group had called for calm yesterday as Israel's foreign minister warned of "additional measures" against Australia amid a diplomatic "tit-for-tat" over visa cancellations.
