Rowan Scott seals his double at Redcar on Ladies Day with Naana's Sparkle

Rowan adds a dash of sparkle with double win

JOCKEY Rowan Scott was in sparkling form with a quick-fire double on a glorious Ladies’ Day at Redcar.

With Britain soaking up a heatwave, an estimated 7,000 people flocked to the seaside course for Saturday’s seven-race card.

And it was Scott, who hails from Hawick in the Scottish Borders, who put on a stylish display with a brace of winners on Billy Bathgate and Naana’s Sparkle.

Billy Bathgate, trained in Hawick by Ewan Whillans got the better of a duel with Cosmic Soul to land the Market Cross Jewellers Handicap.

The gelding is owned by Tom Cox and Ben Coates, of Byker flooring company Cosy @ Home, and the son of New Approach stayed on strongly to floor the opposition.

Ben said: “I'm shaking. We thought he might win today so it’s brilliant”

Scott secured the double on Naana’s Sparkle in the next race, the Racing TV Free Trial Handicap, which provided the best finish of the day.

The winner, trained at Newmarket by Alice Haynes, swooped late to collar favourite Reservardo by a neck, with Tiva a head away in third.
