As monkeypox (Mpox) infections continue to rise in various parts of the country, the Department of Health – Central Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH-CVCHD) is in the process of finalizing regional protocols to address the growing public health concern.

While several provinces have reported a spike in cases, Central Visayas has yet to record a confirmed infection. Nevertheless, preparations are underway to respond to potential outbreaks.

In a message to The Freeman, DOH-CVCHD confirmed that it is still refining the regional health response, with guidelines expected to be issued soon.

“We are in the process of finalizing protocols and guidance related to the reported Mpox cases in the region,” a DOH-CVCHD representative said.

“Rest assured that we will proceed with the sharing of accurate and timely information as soon as protocols are in place,” the representative added.

Meanwhile, Bohol has taken the lead in Region 7 by issuing an urgent advisory to strengthen disease surveillance and response mechanisms.

In a memorandum dated May 27, 2025, Bohol Provincial Health Office (PHO) officer-in-charge Dr. Fruserma Mary A. Uy directed all municipal and city health offices, hospitals, and private clinics to intensify their information campaigns and monitor suspected cases.

All Disease Reporting Units—including Municipal Epidemiology Surveillance Units (MESUs), City Epidemiology Surveillance Units (CESUs), and Hospital Epidemiology Surveillance Units (HESUs)—were instructed to remain vigilant and promote public awareness.

The Bohol PHO advisory also urged the public to avoid crowded places, observe proper hygiene, and seek medical consultation if symptoms appear.

“Monkeypox is preventable and manageable with timely action,” the advisory stated.
