Archival urges barangays to install rainwater catchments

For stronger disaster preparedness, Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival is broadening his call for measures, this time by proposing the installation of rainwater catchments in barangay gymnasiums.

The plan, which will be discussed in today's meeting with the Cebu City Development Council (CCDC), comes after his earlier appeal to residents to take proactive steps in safeguarding their communities.

Archival pointed out that barangay gyms in the city are built with wide roofs but mostly do not have catchment systems to store rainwater.

By equipping these facilities with catchments, he said, communities would have immediate access to water during emergencies - a resource often scarce in the aftermath of typhoons or other disasters. As explained, the catchment system is also a primary method that helps prevent flooding.
