Park staff tickled pink at arrival of flamingo chick

STAFF at Paradise Park Wildlife Sanctuary are thrilled with their newly hatched Caribbean flamingo chick.

The chick is the first to hatch and be reared by parents Edwina and Anthony, and will be brother or sister to Derek, who was hand-reared in 2019.

Both Edwina and Anthony are 23 years old and came to Paradise Park in 2004 having been bred at Chester Zoo two years earlier.

The first flamingo egg of the season was laid by Penelope, but sadly for her and her mate Colin, it was not fertile, with concerns the egg was laid too early.

Paradise Park Wildlife Sanctuary has a flock of nine flamingos including Derek, Doris, Anthony, Alan, Colin, Richard, Edwina, Rita and Penelope.
