CONSERVATION work has begun to secure the historic stone parapet of the Old Quay in Newlyn, thanks to funding from Historic England.

It was announced back in August that the harbour restoration project, which also includes improvements to the Red Lion slipway, was to receive almost £200,000.

The work is intended to safeguard one of the UK's few surviving medieval quays and maintain Newlyn’s role as a hub of maritime activity.

After months of work by local volunteers to clear away damaging plant growth staff from local contractor Symons Construction have now begun preparing and pointing the parapet wall.
