Gardeners' House opens its doors after nine-year restoration project

AFTER nine years in the making, the Gardeners' House in Penzance has finally opened its doors as a resource for the community of west Cornwall.

At the official launch on Saturday the sun shone as the team behind the restoration project welcomed friends and supporters.

Guests included Taryn Nixon from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, mayor of Penzance Councillor Stephen Reynolds and Phil Budden, a member of the Penzance Town Fund Board and husband of the late Melissa Hardie Budden, who came up with the idea of restoring the dilapidated building.

Previously a stable block, and the home of the gardener caring for subtropical Morrab Gardens, it will now host wellbeing workshops, environmental community projects and a sensory garden.

"The Gardeners' House is a space to support the local community, using the natural history and the stories of the area to inspire people and support their wellbeing", a spokesperson said.
