On the Soweto derby
For all the buildup and pressure that come with the Soweto derby, I think this one gave supporters exactly what they paid for. Yes, it ended 1-1, but if we are being honest, it was full value for money. There was intensity, quality, chances and entertainment from both sides. That is what people want when they come to watch the Soweto derby. They want to be entertained, and I think both Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates delivered that. It was not one of those cagey games where both teams were too scared to lose. Both teams showed intent, they wanted to play and created moments. That is what made it such a good spectacle. I think the fans will walk away saying they got their money’s worth. It had the energy, the tackles, the saves, the goals and the drama that this fixture is known for. Sometimes we judge a derby only by who wins, but this one reminded people why this is still the biggest fixture in South African football. It was a draw, yes, but it was a proper football match. It had everything you expect from a Soweto derby and for the neutral, it was one of the better ones we have seen in a long time. I think both teams can take positives from it, but most importantly the supporters were the real winners because they got a derby that delivered on the occasion and gave them proper entertainment from the first whistle to the last.
