THE NUMBERS scarcely bear belief. One A&E nurse or frontline hospital worker attacked somewhere EVERY TWO HOURS. That's 11 every day. More than 4,000 physical assaults on these good people every year - a figure that has DOUBLED in just five years.

The details are, frankly, nauseating. Casualty nurses having cigarettes stubbed out on their foreheads or cheeks. Kidney bowls of vomit hurled all over them. Bedpans full of urine and faeces hurled into faces.
Sickening.
Battery acid swirled in glass bottles with threats to pour it over health workers' heads.
