CONSTABLE LOST HIS TEMPER WHEN HE WAS REFUSED ENTRY TO A PUB

- By JOEL MOORE joel.moore@reachplc.com @JoelMoore98

A DRUNKEN Nottinghamshire police officer threatened to “put down” a street warden after he was refused entry to a pub during a night out in Lincoln.

PC Christopher Wagstaff repeatedly swore and made threats when he and his friends were blocked from entering The Cardinal's Hat on Saturday, February 8, leading to police being called out.

He identified himself as an officer and twice told the warden he would “put you to the floor” and arrest him.

The officer burst into tears when he was told this week he could keep his job during a misconduct hearing held at Nottinghamshire Police headquarters in Arnold.

PC Wagstaff, who joined the force in June 2023, said he was “truly sorry” for his behaviour, which was “not the person I am”.

Despite describing his behaviour as “completely unreasonable,” Derbyshire’s chief constable, Rachel Swann, who chaired the hearing, acknowledged his remorse and otherwise unblemished service record.
