VICTIM TREATED IN HOSPITAL WITH PUNCTURED LUNG

- By MARTIN NAYLOR

A 26-YEAR-OLD man stabbed a friend twice during a fight in a Radford car park, leaving him hospitalised with a punctured lung.

CCTV footage played at Nottingham Crown Court showed Mohamed Gawi emerge from a path where he was hiding before pulling the blade from the pocket of his hoodie.

After a face-off with the complainant, who struck out first, Gawi produced and used the weapon while they grappled and pinned each other up against a car.

The two men traded blows against a set of railings before Gawi fled.

Jailing him for four years and 11 months, Judge Tina Dempster said: "Whatever the background is between you, you armed yourself with a knife and went to his address.

"Matters escalated quickly and you stabbed him, which led to a partial collapse of his lung.

"It was an incident captured in full view of the public. People were driving their cars about."

Prosecutor Dan Scothern said the incident happened in a car park in Norton Street, Radford, on the early evening of May 3.
