BRIDGE DROPPED AMID SIX NEW APPLICATIONS TO COUNCIL

THE transformation of a former air base is being altered in the light of residents' concerns.

The former Royal Air Force base in Newton has changed massively in recent years, with housebuilder Redrow currently building 545 homes at its Newton Garden Village estate.

The base - used to train pilots, including Polish airmen during the Second World War - closed in 2001 and was sold to Newton Nottingham LLP.

As building work continues, the land owner has now brought forward a raft of changes after parts of the masterplan became "problematic".

Developers have been working on six planning applications to "respond positively to challenges which have arisen" as the project has progressed, planners explained.

Firstly, a new access road to the development's existing commercial area is planned to address the worries of residents who have had to contend with lorries driving through residential parts of the estate.
