£45m campus costs that university tried to keep from public

THE cost of the University of Nottingham’s controversial new campus has been revealed after a failed attempt to keep it from the public.

Construction of the Russell Group university's Castle Meadow campus, on the site of the former HMRC office complex off Wilford Road, is predicted to have cost more than £45 million as of last month.

The university paid £37.5 million for the Grade II-listed buildings in 2021, promising to turn them into a new business school.

But its ambitions have been hampered by a financial crisis that has forced it to lease out some of the yetto-be-completed campus.

The university, which has been shedding hundreds of jobs due to a decline in international students, originally expected to spend £45 million over 10 years on the Castle Meadow, an amount that has seemingly been spent in less than five years.
