Car crashes into wall after chase

SERIES OF ARRESTS AS POLICE LAUNCH DRINK-DRIVE ROADS BLITZ

A DRIVER has been arrested after a police chase through the city centre.

It comes as police launch their annual winter crackdown on drink and drug driving.

At around 2am yesterday, Merseyside Police received a report about a man, who was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol, getting into a car near Wood Street.

Following a brief pursuit, the vehicle crashed into a lamppost and wall in Argyle Street, off Paradise Street.

The driver and passenger were both detained.

A 21-year-old man from Halewood was arrested on suspicion of drink driving, failing to stop, dangerous driving and driving without a licence.

He was taken to a police station.

There were three similar cases across Liverpool yesterday morning.
