Reid misses out on wheelchair doubles title at Wimbledon
There was to be no third title in a row for Gordon Reid on the lawns of Wimbledon after he and partner Alfie Hewett were edged out in a thrilling wheelchair doubles final on Saturday.
The Helensburgh's tennis star's pairing with Hewett has been at the top of the tree in the sport over the last few years - with 33-year-old Reid going for an incredible 27th Grand Slam doubles crown.
The early progress for the duo was predictably serene as they saw off the challenge of American Casey Ratzlaff and Takuya Miki in the opening round with a comfortable 6-3, 6-2 success in an hour-and-a-half.
In the semifinals, there was more of a battle for Reid and Hewett as they faced the task of the eventual singles winner and world number one, Tokito Oda from Japan and Spanish star Daniel Caverzaschi.
