|June 11, 2025
The world is facing a period of growing instability. From the brutal war in Ukraine to the escalating conflict in the Middle East, and rising tensions in Asia, we are entering a new age of global uncertainty.

Dictators around the world are eyeing up their neighbours and creating new threats all over the world. The NATO alliance, which has underpinned our security for 75 years, faces increasing uncertainty.
In this challenging climate, the first duty of any government must be to keep its people safe. That is why the Labour Government is taking decisive action. We are delivering the biggest sustained increase in defence spending since the Cold War, raising it to 2.5 per cent of GDP. This investment is about more than our military readiness; it's about our economy, our jobs, and our national resilience.
