COVENTRY CITY took the full bragging rights in the big West Midlands derby with a comprehensive victory over Birmingham who found themselves a goal and man down before the break at the CBS Arena.

"The performance was outstanding," said Sky Blues boss Frank Lampard. "We knew we had to compete in this game because they're physically good and we matched that completely."

Brandon Thomas-Asante gave the home side the early lead when he nipped in to convert a loose ball in the six yard box after Blues' keeper Ryan Allsop had parried a Liam Kitching shot from the edge of the area, following a long throw from Milan van Ewijk.
