Irishwoman found strangled with a vacuum cord in Spain

THE Government is providing consular support to the family of an Irishwoman who was found strangled to death in Spain.

Catherine Peckham, 66, who is originally from Co Cork but had been residing for some time in the UK, was found with a vacuum cord around her neck in an apartment in Benidorm, Spain on September 17.

Police in Benidorm have since launched a murder investigation and arrested a British woman known to Ms Peckham, whose maiden name is Murray and who has family in the Cork area.

Ms Peckham’s name emerged yesterday, as well as her Irish nationality - and it is now understood that Ireland's Department of Foreign Affairs, as well as British consulate officials, is providing assistance to her family.
