GBV summit maps out plan of action

The first ever Gender-based Violence (GBV) Summit hosted by Families SA (Famsa) Outeniqua at Fancourt Hotel on Thursday 5 June brought together representatives from various organisations and departments that provide services and support to survivors of GBV.

From the SAPS and local hospitals to the National Prosecuting Authority, Department of Social Development and various non-profit and faith-based organisations attended the programme.

Nicolette Buitendag, the director of Famsa, an organisation that focuses on family health, said the summit has been a long time coming as there is a need for better co-operation and communication, as well as accountability, among the various sectors represented in the service delivery chain for GBV victims.
