A fair living wage should be given to all regardless of age
Edinburgh Evening News
|November 11, 2025
The cost of food, energy, housing and living is soaring, and the financial insecurity is far from over for those relying on foodbanks or being forced to go hungry.
Some 7.5 million people, including children, are living in food poverty in the UK and worrying about where their next meal will come from or how they are going to prepare it with the price of gas and electricity.
The cost of food should not be outstripping wages—food is a human right and should not be sold at exorbitant profit.
This week is Living Wage Week, and we are calling on the Westminster Labour Government to do better. The current system of minimum wage requirements, especially for young people, has trapped far too many in a spiral of low pay and insecurity.

Avalanche has been closed since Monday as we prepare to open this weekend and my stock reply when asked if I’m excited about the move is to say the main feeling just now is one of stress but I'll no doubt be more enthusiastic about the experience once we are open and all is well.
