Vale edge out Anvils in cup clash

Abbey Vale boss Allan Clark praised his players for digging deep with 10 men to edge past Gretna in the first round of the Potts Cup on Saturday.

Headers in each half from Robbie Simpson and Tom Forster were enough to earn a 2-1 victory on home turf over the Lowland League side.

The hosts hung on at the end after defender Jerzy Grzebieniak saw red heading into the final 20 minutes.

And boss Clark said: "It was a tight match and one of those games where the park cut up quite a lot.
