No spectacle but the way Brewers dug in for a point was commendable

BURTON Albion's Good Friday game away to Exeter City is not one that will live long in the memory but the point from a goalless draw could prove to be an important one in the Brewers' League One survival battle.

First and foremost, Albion's task is to match or better Bristol Rovers' results from now until the end of the season and, if they do, they will be safe that even includes if they lose their game in hand, for all that they would rather not.

If they win the game in hand and continue to match Rovers' results they might even have the luxury of going to The Valley on the last day of the season to play Charlton Athletic without needing anything from the game - but let's not get ahead of ourselves.

For a start, today's games, on paper, give Rovers a chance to get one back on the Brewers. They are at home to Stevenage, while Burton have to try to get something from the rampant champions of the division, Birmingham City.

The can at least go into the game in good heart.

Here are some of the talking points from the weekend.

Pivotal moments

If Burton stay up, there will be articles to write on some of the key moments in a quite remarkable fightback from a situation which seemed hopeless at the bottom of the table.

There were three contenders in Saturday's game alone, for all that it was lacking in highlights.

In the second minute a stray pass in their own half put Burton under pressure and allowed Exeter to counter.

Reece Cole sent Caleb Watts away and he reached the ball ahead of Max Crocombe and took the ball around him. An open goal gaped and the angle wasn't too tight but Dylan Williams, quite brilliantly, was at full pelt and got back to fly in front of Watts' shot and put it out for a corner.

It could be the best thing Williams does all season and he was again busy and effective in an unfamiliar midfield role.

Only 18 minutes had gone when another slick passing move from the Grecians saw Jack McMillan released into the box with only Crocombe to beat. The keeper "made himself big", as they say, stuck out a leg and kept his side level.
