TRUST TEAM TAKE AWARD FOR GIVING PATIENT HELP SHE NEEDED TO COPE WITH DIAGNOSIS
A PATIENT suffering from breast cancer nominated her support group for a Patient Hero Award, calling them “life-changing”.
The group, made up of University Hospitals of Derby and Burton colleagues, supports patients with secondary breast cancer, which is an incurable type of breast cancer that has spread to other parts of the body.
The support group was set up by Dr Kirsty Williams, a psychologist, and secondary breast cancer clinical nurse specialists Kelly Langston and Karen Simmonds, who wanted to create a space for people with cancer to safely share their experiences and find comfort that they are not alone.
