Derby fight back for epic win over Burton

DERBY battled back from 26-0 down after half-an-hour for an astonishing 40-36 win over local rivals Burton at Haslams Lane on Saturday.

The Regional 1 North West clash looked as good as over in that first 30 minutes but two tries before halftime gave Derby a sniff and they dominated the second half before scoring a last-gasp try through Sam Tebbs to win it as the game entered stoppage time.

Coach Liam Slatem was understandably thrilled with the comeback - but noted the concerns in the opening period because, clearly, Derby will not want to be forced into such a big comeback every week and would not always pull it off.

"We're very pleased to get the win, obviously, against a very good Burton side," said Slatem, after his first win in charge.

"We didn't start the game very well, we went 26-0 down, so that's something we'll be focusing on this week and for the rest of the campaign.

"But I'm very pleased with an epic comeback.
