Snakebite went back in time to oust champion

PETER WRIGHT turfed reigning champion Luke Humphries out of Ally Pally with 2020 vision – using the set of darts he threw to win his first world title.

‘Snakebite’ Wright is famous for tinkering with his stems, tips and flights in search of technical perfection, often swapping them midway through a game.

But when he ended Humphries’ reign at the Paddy Power PDC World Championship with a stunning 4-1 win on Sunday night, Wright’s arbitrary choice of arrows changed the course of history.

On a last-minute hunch, he chose the tungsten weapons with which he conquered Michael van Gerwen 7-3 in the 2020 final – and they worked an absolute treat.

Wright, 54, said: “I just shoved them in my case. They weren’t the darts I was going to use for this tournament.
