Trout & about

WE'RE off! Trout season is under way, the first of the “it's lovely weather for fishing, can you get a half day" calls have come in and it is feeling very fishy all of a sudden.

It's definitely still Scotland in March, though. My mate on the half day made his way up to a hill loch and described sitting on the dam on a summer's day but getting in the water felt more like December.

After a rather windy failed attempt to break my duck on opening day I did sneak out for a wee hour before dark the other evening.

I have a new local river to explore this year so I've got new pools to cover and a whole box of wee flies and spinners to chuck about there.

When there's a load of ground to cover I love to swing wets down and across, making lots of easy casts and getting to read big stretches of the river.
