Knife thug who killed man in street is jailed

A THUG who embraced and shook hands with a man before murdering him in a daylight attack caught on CCTV has been jailed for at least 18 years.

William Lewis, 57, stabbed William Copeland to death before knifing the 36-year-old’s wheelchair-bound dad Thomas, 59, during the attack in Hamilton in October 2024.

Lewis was yesterday sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow after admitting murder and attempted murder in July.

Lord Colbeck jailed Lewis for life and cut the minimum term from 21 years due to the guilty plea.

Prosecutor David Logan told how, earlier on the day of the killing, William had been with his disabled dad and another man when there had been a “verbal altercation” with Lewis.

The trio were later at Hamilton’s Burnbank Centre when Lewis and a friend turned up.
