Seaside town that holds its breath every time it rains

ANOTHER week and another weather warning for North Wales as an exceptionally wet autumn turns into a damp start to the winter.

- By OWEN HUGHES Chief Reporter

There are many places in the region where heavy bouts of rain bring fears over potential flooding - from the Conwy Valley to the Eryri village of Beddgelert.

But this year one community seems particularly badly hit whenever the heavens opens - with some saying it is "getting worse and worse".

While Natural Resources Wales flood alerts are fairly common and means flooding is "possible", a flood warning is more serious. It means flooding is expected with immediate action required.

These more serious flood warnings have regularly flashed up in Pwllheli and flooding has caused major impacts to both property and roads, sometimes cutting off places like Abersoch and Aberdaron as the A499 and A497 get hit by rising waters.

Riverside Terrace is another problem area for floods but more of the community is feeling at risk.

Natural Resources Wales is aware of the issues and two years put forward a number of options to try to mitigate the increasing risk of flooding.

People in the town now want to know when something will actually be done.
