Nuclear plan set to get go-ahead within days

WYLFA is expected to get the go-ahead for small modular nuclear reactors this week.

The Daily Post has been told an announcement is imminent from the UK Government with an update expected before the end of the week.

It would be an enormous boost for the economy of Anglesey and the wider North Wales economy.

The last attempt to develop a full-scale new nuclear plant collapsed in 2021 after a failure to reach a funding agreement between developer Hitachi and the last UK Government.

This latest expected update follows news in recent days that the potential flood risk at rival site Oldbury had pushed Wylfa to the front of the nuclear queue. Both sites are owned by the UK Government.
