INDEPENDENCE DAY

THOUSANDS of people are expected to march today in a call for Welsh independence.

The event is organised by YesCymru and AUOBCymru, who have been co-ordinating marches since 2019 across Wales.

They have held marches in the likes of Caernarfon, Wrexham, Bangor, Swansea, Carmarthen, Merthyr Tydfi and Cardiff.

A march in Cardiff in 2022 attracted more than 10,000 participants, and organisers anticipate it could be as big in the Vale of Glamorgan today.

This weekend's march is in Barry, South Wales.

Organisers highlight Barry as an ideal location for the march due to its significant role in the Cymru Fydd (Young Wales) movement of the 1890s, which advocated for Welsh home rule and self-governance.

The march comes in the wake of a Redfield & Wilton poll, commissioned by YesCymru, showing rising support for independence.
