Call for new rent laws to limit greed of landlords

NEW laws boosting renters' rights should also protect tenants from being forced out by huge rent hikes, some peers say.

A group of House of Lords members from opposition parties want a rent increase cap included.

They say percentage rises should be limited to the lowest of either inflation, wage growth or the Bank of England base rate.

The Renters' Rights Bill will go before a House of Lords committee today.
