ALL babies could be screened for a muscle-wasting disease in future, Wes Streeting says - in what would be a victory for the Mirror campaign.

The move would come as a huge boost for singer Jesy Nelson, lobbying after her twin girls Ocean Jade and Story Monroe were diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy, meaning they may never walk.

The Health Secretary said he has asked his team whether an NHS pilot to screen some newborns for SMA could be expanded as part of the routine NHS heel prick test.

Current plans are for one third of newborns not to be tested so they can act as the "control group" - a move experts branded "unethical".
