Breast cancer pill on NHS offers hope for £77,000 a year

THOUSANDS of women with incurable breast cancer have been given hope of living longer after the health watchdog approved a £77,000-a-year tablet it initially rejected.

Around 1,100 patients in England are expected to be eligible for twice-daily pill capivasertib, which is used with hormone therapy fulvestrant.

Claire Rowney, of charity Breast Cancer Now, said it offers women “the hope of more precious time to do what matters most to them before the disease progresses.”

The drug combination will be offered to patients with hormone receptor-positive HER2-negative breast cancer that has spread.
