Call to hold polluters to account

CAMPAIGNERS have slammed “deeply concerning” bathing water statistics which suggest swimming in some English spots carries “significant” health risks.

All but four of England’s designated river bathing sites got the lowest possible classification of “poor” from the Environment Agency.

James Wallace, CEO of River Action, said it underlined “the failure of regulators to hold polluters to account”.
