10 years for drunk dad whose son died in motorway crash

A DRINK-driver whose son died crossing a motorway after he crashed his car has been jailed for 10 years for manslaughter.

A court heard Matthew Rycroft's autistic son Callum, 12, was hit by a car on the M62 late at night.

Rycroft, 37, had earlier been drinking heavily at a cricket club and visited his parents in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, with his son before crashing on a slip road.

Callum was killed as he tried to cross between junctions 25 and 26 of the M62 about 9.50pm on August 5. Prosecutors said the boy had no speed awareness due to his disability and "should have been under the protection of his father".
