WEPL Louch stars as win gets Downend's summer up and running

OLLIE Louch finished with fine figures of 4-35 as promoted Downend secured their first win of the summer, digging deep for a 39-run home success over cross-town rivals Bristol in WEPL Premier One.

The visitors appeared to be in cruise control at 255-4, needing another 88 with two batters well set and a little more than 11 overs to go at the compact WG Grace Memorial Ground.

But New Zealander Josh Dinan was dismissed by off spinner Masoor Khan for 99 (75 balls, 11 fours, five sixes), Cyrus Shafi jump-ing to hold an excellent two-handed catch at full stretch above his head.

And that wicket opened the door for Downend, Khan also account-ing for opener Rishi Panchal whose 107 off 117 featured 15 fours and a six, before Louch ran through the lower order with his accurate seam.

Panchal and Dinan shared a fifth wicket stand of 160 for Bristol whose cause was not helped by mix ups that led to two run outs.
