Housing battle MP 'disappointed' at developer's bid to build on green belt

AN MP has accused a housing developer of trying to 'get around' the planning process by revealing plans for a huge extension to village near Bristol that involves 450 new homes and a new primary school.

Thornbury and Yate’s Claire Young said she was ‘very concerned’ at the actions of developers Bloor Homes, who have launched a consultation with the public over its plans to build on fields to the east of Coalpit Heath.

The plans, which Bloor said would be submitted as a formal planning application in the coming months, would effectively see the village between Bristol and Yate grow in size by another 50 per cent there are around 1,900 people living in just over 800 homes, and Bloor wants to build 450 on fields to the east of Roundways and to the north of the London-South Wales railway line.

But the fields in question are currently designated as Green Belt, a status that the council wants to continue into the new draft Local Plan in South Gloucestershire, which is in the final stages of being adopted.
