Evacuation Police quiz man after 200 people told to leave homes

Residents in Ashton Vale have been allowed home after they were evacuated overnight when a man was arrested for having suspected explosive items

POLICE were last night continuing to question a young man following a “major incident” in Ashton Vale which saw around 200 people evacuated from their homes.
Officers were called to a property in South Liberty Lane at around 5.55pm on Tuesday over concern an individual had access to explosive items.
The man, 21, was arrested at 7.10pm on suspicion of making an explosive and for being in possession of cannabis.
Police said last night that early investigative enquiries indicated “the item found was not a viable explosive”
