Across the West Midlands, there are currently 300 more children waiting in care than there are approved adopters.

Adoption agencies say the cost of living is contributing to fewer people coming forward, with sector data showing a 12% decline in prospective adopter registrations compared to last year.

According to You Can Adopt, more children are now waiting more than 18 months for a match, and the average time from approval to placement has risen to 292 days, 11 days longer than last year.

But behind each statistic is a child spending another season in temporary care, another school term without a permanent base, or a sibling pair hoping they can stay together.
