Old Dogs duo delighted to represent the Three Lions

When the official England over-60s football team came to the West Country at the Bank Holiday weekend to take on a Wiltshire over-55s XI, they selected two of the Bath Old Dogs over-50s side that had played them in Leicester the week before.

Old Dogs duo delighted to represent the Three Lions

Old Dogs goalkeeper Simon Lees and central midfielder Tom Foulstone had clearly done enough in the 3-0 defeat by England at Kirby Muxloe FC to be asked after the game if they would pull on an England shirt the following week for the game against Wiltshire at Trowbridge Road, home of Bradford Town FC, the following Sunday.

Unfortunately for Simon and Tom, that game ended 2-1 to Wiltshire, but they were both delighted to have had the opportunity to play for England - an opportunity they must have thought had probably gone by the time they started secondary school over 40 years ago.

“It was spectacular, but it was hard work, and not the result we would have wanted,” said Simon.
