What to eat

These alkaline foods are easily digestible and nourishing. Certain foods, such as leafy greens and vegetables, contain enzymes that accelerate metabolic reactions in the body. You'll feel lighter, brighter and more energised. Your body will also start to shed any excess weight and you could lose up to 7lb in a week.

* Keep acid-forming foods and sweet fruit to a minimum: Red meat; poultry; dairy; eggs; cakes; crisps; cola; processed food; tea; coffee; chocolate; biscuits; bananas; figs; papayas; mangoes; kiwi fruit; pineapples; grapes; melons; oranges; grapefruit.

* Non-sweet fruit (unlimited): Apples; all berries; tomatoes; pears; cucumbers.

* Fruit, veg, seeds, grains: Herbs; leafy greens; lemons; limes; almonds; pecans; walnuts; apricots; onions; garlic; ginger; quinoa; buckwheat; brown rice; coconuts; coconut water; avocados; asparagus; cauliflowers; sunflower, flax, pumpkin and sesame seeds; olives; alfalfa sprouts.

* Coloured vegetables: Carrots; beetroot; sweet potatoes; sweet peppers; courgettes; squash.
