The holiday season doesn't have to mean no treats. In moderation, ice cream is arguably one of the better temptations you can indulge in. 'Ice cream is a great source of nutrients, such as vitamin A, phosphorus and calcium,' says Karine Patel, founder of dietitianfit. co.uk. 'Vitamin A is important for vision and immunity, while phosphorus and calcium contribute to healthy and strong bones.'

It's also a good source of energy and a comfort food. 'This is because dairy ice cream contains an amino acid called tryptophan (found in milk), and this is known to help our body produce a hormone called serotonin, aka the "happy hormone",' explains Karine. In fact, neuroscientists at the Institute of Psychiatry found that eating ice cream activates the brain's pleasure centre, which is why it feels so good to eat it!
