SECRETS and spies

THE NIGHT MANAGER

LAST ONE SUNDAY, 9PM, BBC1 THRILLER

The second run of acclaimed BBC1 espionage epic The Night Manager began with soldier-turned-hotelier-turned-spy Jonathan Pine once again entering into the lion's den, as he tried to infiltrate the network of Colombian businessman Teddy Dos Santos.

However, when the six-part sequel reaches its final instalment this Sunday, the gung-ho British intelligence officer (played by Tom Hiddleston) is not the only one risking everything, as troubled Teddy (Diego Calva) turns double agent in the battle to bring down ruthless arms dealer Richard Roper (Hugh Laurie), who also happens to be his father...

The debut series, which aired in 2016, was inspired by John le Carré's 1993 book of the same name and adapted for TV by screenwriter David Farr. But with no followup source material available, David was tasked with developing this latest perilous chapter for Jonathan, which is set eight years on – and left viewers stunned at the end of Episode 3 with the shock return of Richard, who was believed to be dead.
